Abstract

Private spending on school education has emerged as a critical factor influencing educational outcomes in southern India. This study examines the determinants of household expenditure on private schooling, with a focus on socio-economic, demographic, and institutional factors. Using data collected from diverse socio-economic groups across the region, the research identifies key drivers such as income levels, parental education, urbanization, and perceptions of quality in private schools. Additionally, regional disparities and the impact of school-specific factors like fees, infrastructure, and medium of instruction are explored. The findings highlight significant inequalities in access to quality education and underscore the need for policy interventions to ensure equitable educational opportunities. This study contributes to the understanding of private education trends and offers insights for policymakers aiming to address challenges in the education sector in southern India.
